Homework: Questions to Answer about Your Proposed Group Project

For tomorrow morning, please consider the following questions as they apply to your project proposal:

1 What is your most basic assumption about how your industry works?

2 What possible event or innovation could change that by 2020?

3 What would the next iPad or equivalent gamechanger for your industry look like?

4 Name a job title for your your industry that doesn’t exist now but might in 2020.

5 Each participant is encouraged to create a hypothetical news headline for his or her industry, a decade from now. Focus your news headline on the launch of your project.

6 Now, share your results with your group by posting them to the blog!

1 What is your most basic assumption about how your industry works?

Mobile devices will be the device of choice and people will want instant access to medical information.

2 What possible event or innovation could change that by 2020?

The form factor of the device will change to maybe a virtual, wearable, or an implant

3 What would the next iPad or equivalent gamechanger for your industry look like?

Wearable glasses which will provide 3D imaging and will be the one source for education, information, and entertainment. It will be called EyePad.

4 Name a job title for your your industry that doesn’t exist now but might in 2020.

  2. Group 6: Dimension – X

A futuristic, intelligent chip from the IT and hardware industry that can be worn (as a piece of jewelry, for instance) or inserted in a device (such as a wrist watch). Dimension – X combines the functions of all existing digital devices into one and provides much more. It is voice-activated so that the individual controlling is hands-free. It can beam up a virtual display/screen when needed. While we envisage the Version 1.0 to be controlled by voice, by 2050 this device will be controlled by brain waves.

Q1. Basic assumption of the IT industry
    A. The basic assumption is that as the world is getting digitized, more and more new products are being developed to meet different requirements. Each product/device has its own interface.

Q2. What event could change that by 2020
    A. Since everything is shrinking, we can foresee the evolution of a new technology that seamlessly integrates or provides for a common interface to all digital devices and this will change the basic assumption. So every time a new requirement comes up, companies will not come up with a new product but instead augment the existing one.
The basic of this new technology will be a set of common standards/guidelines that allow communication between different devices.

Q3. The next IPAD or equivalent for the industry
    A. Dimension – X :-)

Q4. Name of a job title that does not presently exist.
    A. A new committee for setting up and monitoring the common standards for compliance.

Q5. Hypothetical news headline at the launch of our product.
“The world just entered a new dimension – Dimension-X”

  3. Group 1: Street Smart
Digital hoardings/flexible screens that display product range with prices and oother data that can be captured through mobile apps to place an order. These orders will be immediately diverted to a centralised information reporting portal and lead to immediate payment and deliveries to consumers.

Q1: Basic assumption of the industry
Ans: A purchase is dependent on a consumer GOING to the market; the buyer has to browse/search and buy.

Q2: What event will change this by 2020?

Ans:The proposed technology/product will lead to minimisation of stimulus response time for a transaction (buying decision) by enabling instant purchase and delivery.

    Q3: The net iPad equivalent:
Ans: The street hoarding/flexible display screen that will be available to consumers at all possible public places, such as inside buses or trains, at bus stops, stations etc. This will interface with the mobile app for instant transactions.

Q4 New job title for this industry:
Ans: Signage Controller: We foresee several issues arising due to teh abundance of these screens/displays. Some sort of contro will have to be exercised by regulatory authorities to ensure that these devices are used ethically and aesthetically.

    Q5: News Headlines:

    a) "Buy on the Fly Becomes a Reality!"
    b) "Shopping Marts are Now Warehouses"

  4. Team 4 - MINDSHARE... "Mind It"

Q1. What is your most basic assumption about how your industry works?
A1. eLearning is traditionally delivered as learning courses on multiple devices including PC and mobiles (smartphones & tablets) whereby end users need to peruse and understand, spending considerable time learning the concepts and remembering.

Q2. What possible event or innovation could change that by 2020?
A2. Considerable inventions and innovations in the field of Electrocortiography have proved that it is possible to read human thoughts. It is a matter of time when this process will be reversed and thoughts will be planted in a human mind. This process will then be used to impart knowledge at the speed of light.

Q3 What would the next iPad or equivalent gamechanger for your industry look like?
A3. MINDSHARE's revolutionary product 'MindGel' which one needs to apply to their foreheads allows for nano-chips in the gel to connect with the person's brain waves and produce a UBID (Unique Brain ID) which is used to connect to the cloud server 'iMind'. This is where all the knowledge is stored and shared with others. The nano-chips communicate with the server and convert digital data into electrical pulses which are transmitted directly into the person's brain enabling quick retention of knowledge. These nano-chips are also used by the person to share personal thoughts and events with friends and family as a form of social collaboration. Private thoughts can be 'parked' in the cloud server for later retrieval.

Q4. Name a job title for your industry that doesn’t exist now but might in 2020.
A4. The MasterMind - The main controller of the platform who oversees the functioning of the system and ensures that it is not misused by people with vested interests in controlling others minds.

Q5. Each participant is encouraged to create a hypothetical news headline for his or her industry, a decade from now. Focus your news headline on the launch of your project.
A5. "We are closer to thought sharing than you ever thought!" - Revolutionary new technology from MINDSHARE now allows people to gain, retain and share knowledge in a matter of nanoseconds. Close to 10 billion people (half of the world's population) are already 'hooked' onto it and are reaping the benefits of easy and quick knowledge sharing.
